my smart friend

This week has been a particularly trying one. Me and the little man have been cooped up inside due to the rain and he has not been his usual chipper self. Not sure what's going on but today a friend sent me an email and reminded me of something. Her words were this: "My purpose in this life is not to become a mom and raise good kids, it is to love and serve glorify God and love and serve others." How right she is. Of course I want to submit to the Lord and follow him as it relates to loving and taking care of Cohen but there's more. There's so much more and I want Cohen to grow up knowing that. It's my job to make sure that by watching me, he learns to serve others and glorify the Lord even at a young age. My friend also sent a song (oh how I love a good hymn) Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus. I'm sure a lot of you know the words but here they are in case you didn't grow up southern baptist like some of us (Becky holla atcha).

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

there's also a verse that I didn't really remember but I love the words. There is a dying world out there and I need to step outside into it with both feet, love others, and teach my son to do the same.

His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

4 months and holding strong

Cohen passed his 4 month checkup with flying colors. We feel SO blessed and excited about it!! For those who care, he is 17 pounds and 25 3/4 inches tall. He got more shots and this time I didn't cry (you can congratulate me when you see me next) He only cried for a bit. I think the blue camo band-aids adorning each fat thigh probably helped. We love our boy so much!!
4 month photo in the glider: compare to 2 months and 3 months

not a mohawk, round here we call that a "co-hawk"

I spent the last of the babies-r-us store credit on an excersaucer. He's warming up to it I think.

tootsies

I took this picture because I know all too soon there will be longer legs, dirty shoes and scuff marks. I will love that too.

frogs & oatmeal

Do you like oatmeal? We do at our house but I've never made steel cut oats like this before. If you have and you think it's worth a shot let me know, otherwise Quaker is treating me just fine.

Also, this weekend we're having a party for St. Patrick's Day. It's a HUGE deal in our neighborhood for some reason. The excitement that my sweet husband has for this day every year is laughable. You'd think the man was actually Irish. We're grilling burgers but here is one other thing I plan to make. They're easy and really tasty!

Indoor S'mores

INGREDIENTS
4 cups golden grahams cereal
3 tablespoons margarine
6 cups miniature marshmallows
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1 1/2 cups milk chocolate chips

DIRECTIONS
1. Coat a 9x13 inch dish with cooking spray. Place cereal into a large bowl; set aside.
2. In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt margarine. Add marshmallows and corn syrup and stir until melted and smooth. Stir in chocolate chips until melted. Remove from heat and pour over waiting cereal; stir well to coat. Press into prepared pan. Cool completely before cutting into squares.

And because I forgot to post this a while back. Courtesy of Megan...who needs pockets?

athleta

I got a catalog in the mail a month or so ago and I had never heard of the company before. Didn't ask for the catalog or anything, it just showed up in the mailbox as they sometimes do. It's called Athleta. Have you heard of it? As it turns out, I REALLY love the stuff and thought I'd share. I have yet to actually make a purchase but here are my top few favorites.

good morning everyone in the news this morning good morning

UPDATE: WE GOT THE ALL CLEAR!!!! THANK YOU FOR THE PRAYERS-- STAY TUNED FOR THE JUNE CHECK-UP!

If you've seen the Ann Curry clip from the today show you understand that post title. If not, oh well not to worry. I just wanted to ask for your prayers today! Chris has his second follow up CT scan today. Although the first one went great, we never look forward to these days but know that they must come to ensure Chris' complete health and recovery.

Please join us in praying for peace as he does not like having the actual testing done and for great results afterward!

"Patiently wait for God alone, my soul!
For he is the one who gives me confidence.
He alone is my protector and deliverer..."
