Just In Case

Should anyone out there in cyberspace want to buy me a Christmas gift this year, I've put together a little list of things that I might enjoy having around. Now, I should note that this is NOT a complete list and I will quite possibly be adding to it in my brain each day until December 25th, but since my family members keep asking, here goes...

I also want a new digital camera but didn't put a photo of one because I'm still not sure which kind I want. So, I've gotten all of the Christmas decorations out of the attic. Well, Chris got them down because I'm afraid of attics (another post entirely). It has been a busy busy week though and so far, only a few things have made it out of the boxes. Really I don't EXPECT any of these things to arrive on my doorstep but I did think they were neat. What's on your list this year? I'd like to know.

It Was Fantastic!

We went to the Iron Bowl this weekend. For those of you who don't know me well, THIS was a big deal. Monumental really. I love Auburn football and this was my first (and only) game of the season. Thank you Mom and Dad for the GREAT tickets!

I'll post pictures later on but for now, I'll just say that it was fantastic and WAR EAGLE!!

On being picky...

When I was a kid my sister and I loved the book "My Icky Picky Sister". Have you ever read it? A few nights ago Chris and I were conversing in the car and he made the comment that he thought I was, in fact, more picky than he is. Not about everyday things, mind you, but about odd things that he wouldn't even consider. I thought about it and while I don't think I appear picky on the surface, he lives with me and I think he'd know the truth!

So here it is... At the risk of sounding completely anal, I've complied a list of things I'm picky about.

1. Meat fat. Simply put I DESPISE fat on any sort of edilbe meat product! Just won't do it.

2. When I drink milk (which I often do) it MUST be cold, very cold. Ice it down if necessary but I definately do not eat the ice when I'm done like I would with a soda, tea, or other beverage.

3. Chipping nail polish. At the first sight of a color variance the polish has to be removed asap. I also don't enjoy having one nail that is shorter or longer than the others.

4. When I write with ball point pens, I cannot write directly on one sheet of paper with the table underneath. I put something underneath it every time. (unless it's an emergency) I'll fold the paper onto itself if I have to.

5. There are 3 foods that really just NEED to be accompanied by soda: Mexican, Pizza, Popcorn. Not that difficult.

6. When making sandwiches, the bread should have a nice even layer of condiments, no GLOBS of jelly or heaven fobid, mayonaise. No globs... none.

Well, I'm sure there are many more but I just though that would be a little insight to my brain. Hope you at least have a few things that make you semi-crazy as well. Let me know... it will help me feel better ;o)

Oh, and do you ever feel bad for the ONE flake or ring of cereal left in the bowl with all the milk remnant? I don't want to throw him down the disposal all lonely and afraid...so I have to eat it. As soggy as it may be, I HAVE to eat it!

Pumpkin Patch

With all of the craziness of the 3-Day walk, I forgot to post pictures of our family trip to the Dallas Arboretum pumpkin patch. I know you're thinking... Lindsay has no kids, why would she spend an afternoon in the pumpkin patch? Well... we went with Court, Megan, Jim and our nephew Dylan and had a BLAST! He was such a great sport for all of the pictures and he was so much fun to watch! I think this might be his debut on our blog, don't know why he hasn't been on here before now. Maybe it's because I put him on my MySpace page back when he was little and had brown hair and everyone kept sending me messages like, " I didn't know you had a baby!!" Now, he looks nothing like me but he does have some curls...

Here is a sampling of the million that I took. I took about 20 more but then I realized there was no film in the camera!! Yes, I'm old fashioned and I LOVE film.

Also, for all of you sisters out there... I saw this mouspad the other day and thought you all would enjoy. Darby-- maybe M&P need these to match their PJs!!

We made it!

We made it through each step of our 60 mile walk. It was an amazing experience! No one walked to accomplish a goal for themselves, but each person there was walking FOR someone else. Our mothers, daughters, friends and each little one we passed on the roads! If you ever have the chance, DO IT! Yes, it's hard, but really worth every step!

Everyone has been touched in some way by breast cancer. And recoiled from the touch. No family should lose a mother prematurely. Or a dear friend, sister, wife, daughter, co-worker. No one of us, just diagnosed, should have to look at the mirror in the morning and say: Will I survive? Everyone deserves a lifetime: We feel it deep in our bones.

Happy Howl-oween

Mom says I'm not supposed to be on the computer, so I have to make this really quick. I just wanted to tell everyone that Mom walked every mile of her 3-Day walk and she will post pictures and details later this week. Also, I wanted to tell all of you Happy Howl-oween. My grandaddy took this picture of me while he was in town and I wanted to post it on the blog (after all, I am a member of this family too even though I'm small and sometimes people forget that I'm down here). Corn Dogs and Candy Apples

Hi everyone... This past weekend my parents came to visit. It was such a blast! Mom and Dad, I hope you had as much fun as I did. The biggest outing of the weekend (coming in a close second was Chris' high school homecoming), was the Texas State Fair! It's a whopper for those of you who haven't been, and we faced it head on! Friday we stepped outside to a beautiful 70 degree morning and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Perfect weather for stuffing our faces with fried/sugar coated grub and seeing all the sights. After saying hello to Big Tex, the 52 foot inflated Texas Icon who greets folks at the gate, our day was well underway. We went to see the auto show, the dog show, the human cannonball, the butter sculpture, cooking demonstrations, chickens, the swings (my favorite), and last but not least THE TEXAS STAR!

The Texas Star is the largest ferris wheel in North America. I, being afraid of heights, was NOT planning to participate in that adventure. But since it was a special occasion and I was feeling brave, I put my fears aside and hopped on. It was quite high and I don't think I moved for the first two rotations but by the third and final ride, I had mustered enough courage to take a few pictures for proof!

Texas Fight!

This weekend Chris and I experienced our very first Texas Longhorns football game! I think this is sort of a right of passsage to being a Texan. I mean, I got a TX license, got a texas car tag, adapted my tastebuds to tolerate spicy foods, and ate a breakfast burrito (which I thought I'd hate) so I think going to the UT game MIGHT actually complete my requirements, but I'm not sure.

Ryan and Danielle took us to Austin for a great weekend of football and fun. We bought some orange apparel, practiced putting our "horns up" and settled into our wonderful seats under the blessed overhang of the staduim. I say blessed because it was HOT and SUNNY but soon turned to HOT and POURING RAIN. So, many thanks to Ryan for scoring such great seats out of the elements. Texas unfortuately didn't win but it was still a great time together with friends! We went to the game and ate at some wonderful local restaurants. That night we met up with some other friends and enjoyed the nightlife of downtown Austin.

While we were eating dinner on Saturday, Chris and I checked the score of the Auburn Florida game quite frequently. I was so excited when I DASHED across the restaurant to tell Chris that we WON! I was SO proud of my tigers!! What was a bum day for Texas turned out quite well for some of us! Click here to see more pictures...

This weekend I spent in Nashville, TN with my mom and my sister. We went to the "Deeper Still" women's conference with Beth Moore, Kay Arthur, and Priscilla Shirer. It was a GREAT experience and if you ever get an opportunity to hear any of these 3 women speak, you should go! We learned a lot about the life of David and I left feeling really inspired.

My mom also taught me a few things on the trip... I'm now an official seamstress! OK, ok, I can smock a few stitches. I'm no professional yet but I am well on my way to making a cute little dress! If you have a daughter and you want it... be my guest because otherwise I guess I'll have to put in on Ebay or something!

While we were there we got to spend time with my best friend Courtney and her family. On Saturday we spent quality time together touring the BACKSIDE of Nashville trying to locate Courtney's towed car! Yes, my friends, her brand new grocery gettin', baby carryin' SUV got towed right out of the spot she left it in. Don't ya hate that? Really it was a pretty funny experience looking back, right Court?!

Sunday was much better though as we all got to spend time with Courtney's kids Paxton(3) and Caitlin(1). They are just the cutest little things and I'm so sad that I don't live down the street from them anymore. Recently, Paxton got kidnapped and brainwashed by his uncle Colby and came home saying WAAAAARRRR EAGLE... HEY! I love it! Way to go Paxton! Although his UT Vols Mommy and Daddy weren't as excited!

This is What Awesome Looks Like

This weekend we went to the lake with our community group from church. We had a great time. It was supposed to rain the whole time but I never saw a drop! Mad props to Adrian for skiing on her VERY first attempt by the way. I don't know anyone else who can say they did that! Emily, I hope you wore the T-shirt to work this morning!

Chris and I are truly blessed to have you friends in our life. Let's go again when the weather gets cool!

Hey everybody! I just wanted to let you know what's up. I've been busy trying to get the biz underway. God has been good so far (as if I thought He would be anything less). I've had numerous freelance jobs sent my way and I've gotten to meet some new people because of it.

In other news... my friend Ashley has somehow convinced me that on October 26 I'll be in good enough shape to complete the Susan G. Komen breast cancer 3-Day Walk! Yep-- 3 days of walking. 60 miles, from Dallas to Fort Worth. I'm very excited even if I feel completely underprepared thus far. We're doing it together to try and do our SMALL part to help find a cure for this disease! PLEASE feel free to join our team and walk with us. If you live near Dallas, great, if not, who cares. That's what cars and planes are for. We'd love to get more team members!!

Rocco

Well folks, for those of you who haven't seen the little critter, here he is making his debut on the world wide web! Chris got Rocco for me at Christmas. He was a great gift and we've had a lot of fun with him. I never thought I'd have a small dog since I grew up with a golden retriever but you never know I guess. He knows some tricks and loves to sit on the top of the couch and watch people walk by! He can play fetch with the you for HOURS if you let him. I think his best friend is my mom. She was here recently and when she left he went into a few days of depression.

This picture looks posed but I swear he crawled in between the pillows and stuck out his head all on his own!

the trip

So we're back from Nantucket. It was a wonderful trip and a much needed vacation. I've included a link to the photos so you can get a little glimpse of what we saw there. There is so much history there and so much beautiful scenery. Without the cool sea air and the sound of the waves slapping against the pier though, I can't provide a good representation... but just try to imagine.

I do have one silly morsel to share which some of you might like. While shopping on day, I noticed a girl in a LARGE pair of sunglasses. Upon further examination of the blonde-haired dame, I discovered her to be Elizabeth Hasselbeck from the View, (or Survivor if you remember that season). Although 98 % of me screamed TAKE A PICTURE OR YOU CAN'T PROVE IT, the rational 2% chimed in, "she's on her vacation too, leave her alone". So I let her shop in peace.

For Starters...

So, I finally decided to sit down and start a blog. Don't have much to say or anything, just thought I'd make an attempt at sharing my life with my friends. Hopefully in the coming days and months I'll have exciting things to post, or at least something thought-provoking to say, but for now here is what has been going on...

I quit my job a week ago and I'm now a full time freelance designer. I'm really excited to see where this takes me. So far I've got a few clients lined up but I welcome any referrals or contacts. I'll let you know how things progress. For anyone who I haven't talked to lately, I have a nephew and a dog now! This July, my first (and only) nephew Dylan will be one year old! Time seriously flew by. And my dog, Rocco is 8 months old and so much fun. He weighs in at a whopping 5 lbs. and just got a very handsome haircut.

We're going to Nantucket/Martha's Vineyard next week. Neither of us have been and we're really excited. Let us know if you've been and there is anything we shouldn't miss. I'll try to post some photos of our adventures when we get back. If nothing else, we will escape the brutal grip of Texas heat for a few days!
