Easter Candy... a pointless post

If you ask me, and likely my mom since I don't know who else taught me this... there are few things that you HAVE to get when Easter rolls around. Yes, I know that this holiday does not in any way revolve around bunnies, eggs, or candy but just go with me. You'll thank me I think.

Sticky Buns & Hair Accessories

Saw this on Food Network the other day and really want to give it a try. Looks easy enough.

recipe here

On another food related topic, anyone out there have any great recipes for toddlers? Cohen will eat a really good variety of foods so I'd like to get some new ideas for dinner and snacks. If you have had success with quick healthy meals for your kiddies, help a sister out.

On to hair accessories... I've been wanting a feathery headband with a little "flare" for a while now. Can't find the right one though. Large enough to compete with my huge head of hair, yet small enough to be office friendly and not scare away co-workers. Do I get color or stay with black and be a little more conservative? Go with the ACTUAL headband or just less intrusive clips? Here are some options but if you've seen a good one, let me know. And cheap too because let's be honest, they're a total flash in the pan.

And because he OCCASIONALLY checks this blog, I'm giving props to my man, who planned a terrific 30th birthday celebration for me. It spanned 2 weekends. One being a lovely date to dinner and a performance of the Nutcracker ballet at the brand new Winspear Opera house. With the second weekend consisting of Christmas parade with my boys, trip to the Dallas Aquarium wrapped up by a night on the town to my favorite restaurant and a Christmas lights tour bus with 14 of my nearest and dearest! he planned it all... even got the babysitter ;o)

it. was. so. nice.

christmas in a nutshell

for the quick run down... here we go:

Christmas was GREAT this year. Watching things through Cohen's eyes makes things a lot more fun!
He loved the lights. I think that was his favorite part for sure. That, or the tiny "cohen-sized" sugar cookies that my mom and sister made for him.

He was great with the tree. I was pleasantly surprised. Only tried to grab the ornaments a few times. Each day when we came in the door he'd flip his head immediately to the right (where our tree was) and look for the lights. I also let him handle most of the wrapping this year.

It was pretty hard for him to tear away from work this year. Things were just so busy back at the office.

After a lot of Dallas holiday soirees. We drove to Memphis for a few days and had a really fun time with my family.
Cohen got LOTS of gifts. Way too many to blog about, but a couple were... a push/ride tricycle and a sit-n-spin (his mom's favorite as a kid)

But FAR & AWAY his most favorite gift was from Aunt Whit and Uncle Ben who gave him this super snazz T-shirt. He really did love it in spite of his apparent disgust (and possible jealousy at what the future holds)...
(new cousin is due 8.1.2010 and we are pretty darn excited!)

He cheered up though, after a ride around the house suspended in Uncle Ben's new waders!! Hard to tell by this photo but Ben just tucked him in there and zipped the waders up. Cohen thought it was the coolest and MAY have remained there all day had we not suggested another cookie.

Hope your Christmas was equally wonderful!

new things

I feel as though I need to put up one of those signs like they do in the mall... "pardon our dust"
it has been crazy around here lately! A lot has changed and thankfully I can now say, after much worry and wonder, it has changed for the better.

Completely out of the blue I got a job offer that I couldn't pass up and I am now working as a graphic designer, in an office, 5 days a week... again. After 2 years of freelance work, I'm learning what "business casual" means all over again. Yes, the new job required a shopping trip. No, I didn't complain. My schedule is 9-3 which still allows me afternoons with the little man. That's the best part.

So between starting a new job and closing another business, my head has been spinning. But let's be honest, it's been spinning since our precious monkey of a child came into the world a year ago right?

Speaking of that monkey... we had his birthday party on Saturday. It was so much fun. I was really blessed by all of the sweet friends and family who came to celebrate with us. Oh how the year has flown. I swore I wouldn't be so cliche but that's the only thing I can say.

light. speed.

here's kind of how it went down.

It didn't help that the poor munchkin had a cold! But photo evidence aside, I think he actually enjoyed it. Especially when his grandparents rescued him from the festivities and pushed him in the swing. His very favorite place of all.

Amy, if you're reading this... the birthday crown was a hit. AND we (mom) managed to keep it on him somehow!! ;o)

how I feel today

Psalm 116

1 I love the LORD, for he heard my voice;
he heard my cry for mercy.

2 Because he turned his ear to me,
I will call on him as long as I live.

3 The cords of death entangled me,
the anguish of the grave [a] came upon me;
I was overcome by trouble and sorrow.

4 Then I called on the name of the LORD :
"O LORD, save me!"

5 The LORD is gracious and righteous;
our God is full of compassion.

6 The LORD protects the simplehearted;
when I was in great need, he saved me.

7 Be at rest once more, O my soul,
for the LORD has been good to you.
